Royal Burgers’ Zoo is (45 hectares) the second largest Zoo in the Netherlands, on the border of the city of Arnhem, surrounded by ‘National Park De Veluwe’, and has been so for over 100 years. Centrally located and surrounded by the Veluwe National Park the park belonging to the zoo is unique in building ‘ecodisplays’; large built living areas for mixed species, showcasing continents embedded in a forest. For over 20 years I have been working as a strategic advisor on several projects. With developing the ‘Masterplan 2040’ there is a solid spatial basis for the further development. The included sustainability plan sets goals and is a route for energy transition, climate adaption and further integrating local biodiversity, in order to keep the Zoo unique for the next 100 years.
